Four young Denver pupils growing up with psych and shoegaze, now using their references to leave their footprint on the music scene.
Characterized by the colorful sounds of aggressively loud, psychedelic riffs polarized by the soft hums of an E-bow hovering over the strings of a reverbed guitar, shoegaze/post-rock group The Baltic consists of drummer Graham Epstein, guitarists Adam Dankowski and Jose Chalit, and bassist Josh Kaplan. As of now, Epstein and Dankowski both sing in the band's two EP's 'Easter Island' and 'Green Girl'. Both EP's were recorded, mixed, and produced by The Swayback's frontman Eric Halborg and released under Halborg's own record label, Long Gone Lads. The Baltic begun while all four members were still attending high school in Denver, CO.
'The three members of the Baltic are making loud-as-hell shoegaze and power pop that blows the doors off records being put out by people of twice their age and experience... (cont.)' - The Denver Post
'The young guys in the Baltic, though, sound as though they've absorbed the expansive spirit and introspective sounds of post-rock bands like Sigur Ros, particularly on 'Green Girl.' They don't fill every space with noise, like many young (in terms of experience rather than chronological age) bands tend to do. 'Demise,' meanwhile, reveals a Ride influence in its percussion and the way the guitars glitter and soar over a melodic bass line, the vocals ever so slightly in the background. But, here, too, the sophistication of the songwriting and the sensitivity to space are impressive, while the soundscaping is gorgeous and lush.' -Westword
