Follow the musical growth and progress of Grace
Grace is an 11 year old multi-instrumentalist who has had an amazing musical journey thus far in her life! Her most recent adventure has been playing electric blues guitar. Over the summer of 2014, she played with extremely talented blues and rock musicians including Michaela Rae Knox, Austin Young Band, Sad Sam Blues Jam, as well as the local rock/funk band The Symbols and international blues players in The Ori Naftaly Band.
Her blues adventure began when she got connected with Blue Star Connection in Fort Collins. An extremely important organization that supports children with life-challenging illnesses by giving the gift of music instruments! Nothing better than music to heal the soul! Blue Star Connection and the Grand County Blues Society throw a huge Blues Festival in Winter Park, that Grace had the honor of playing on the Future of the Blues Stage. She had an incredible experience and met even more incredibly talented musicians because of it.
Her music history continues with her beginnings of guitar in 2013. She started with the acoustic guitar first through her school's Little Kids Rock Program as well as lessons from local musician Jared Janzen (Blue Taboo). Her acoustic guitar learning has encompassed both folk and pop genres as well as rhythm accompaniment for the younger bluegrass players. She learned the folk accompaniment to play along with her bluegrass roots with local bluegrass musician Lydia Demi-Smith (Lineage Music Project), but quickly gravitated to the electric guitar in March of 2014. Under the teachings of local musicians Mary Sue Thompson (Mary Sue Music), seasoned guitarist David Jensen (Blue Grama Bluegrass) and blues guitarist Michaela Rae Knox (Michaela Rae) she has grown her love of the guitar.
Grace has a longer history with the bluegrass genre, starting to play mandolin in 2010 at the age of 7 with local musician and teacher Chad Fisher (Lineage Music Project) as well as in school with the Laurel Elementary Violin & Mandolin Program. That program is also taught by Chad Fisher and is the only program of it's kind.
She has incorporated singing into her musical life by participating in a number of choirs at her school as well as with Foundation Music School, the place where this all began. At 3 1/2 months old, she began music exploration classes there. That developed into group music classes as a toddler and beginning piano at the age of 4. She continues to play and enjoy piano to this day.
Grace has been in love with music since before she was born and that passion continues every day. As she matures, she is practicing her vocals along with playing her instruments. It has been a wonderful ride and we look forward to watching her continue to grow on her musical journey.
